When we read about vitamins it is almost always said, even before reading, it is okay, but we already know everything about vitamins.<\/span>
\nI, for one, must make an act of humility and admit that every time I read (without preconceptions) something I realize that I am discovering new things or other possible applications.<\/span>
\nIn the case of vitamin D there is also an “aggravating circumstance”, this represented by the fact that the awareness of how vitamin D is produced by the body under the action of the sun’s rays, makes the majority of people, even sportsmen, think that supplementation with this vitamin is useless.<\/span>
\nIn reality this is not the case because although vitamin D is produced by man and is contained in small quantities in some foods including fatty fish, such as herring, mackerel, sardines and tuna, there may be situations in which endogenous synthesis or intake food is not able to provide all the amount the body needs or is needed to deal with certain situations.<\/span>
\nBut let’s start from the beginning, that is, from the things that are part of the basic culture even of any fitness technician.<\/span><\/p>\n

> D2 e D3<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Vitamin D, a fat-soluble vitamin, is mainly composed of 2 variants, D3<\/strong>, or cholecalciferol, and D2<\/strong> (ergo calciferol) is one of the two main variants of vitamin D.<\/span>
\nBoth are converted to 25-hydroxy-vitamin d, or 25 (oh) d.<\/span>
\nThe most obvious and known activity of vitamin D concerns bone health.<\/strong><\/span>
\nThis has the task of maintaining the right blood levels of calcium and phosphorus and is essential for bone metabolism by promoting the absorption of calcium.<\/span>
\nThis action ensures that the intake of calcium with vitamin D (combined with appropriate drugs such as alendronates<\/strong>) is one of the safeguards for dealing with problems such as osteoporosis.<\/span>
\nBut also in symptoms such as bone pain (osteomalacia) or loss of bone component as in pathologies from hyperparathyroidism and \/ or renal insufficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vitamin D3 is also active for heart<\/strong>, circulatory<\/strong> andhypertensive<\/strong> diseases.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

An interesting application is also the one concerning the control of LDL<\/strong> cholesterol.<\/strong><\/span>
\nApplications that are little known are certainly those onweight control<\/strong>, in fact it helps to stabilize blood sugar by attenuating the insulin response.<\/span>
\nThis potential makes it interesting for overweight problems but also for situations of type 2 diabetes.<\/span>
\nThis potential is confirmed by the fact that low levels of 25 (oh) d have been detected in subjects with problems of hypertension, diabetes, obesity and high levels of triglycerides.<\/span>
\nHence a first possible wide use in the world of fitness, this in order to regulate insulin sensitivity with use both during the day and before sleep, in order to optimize the effect of the gh hormone.<\/span>
\nIn recent years, research shows that vitamin D could have numerous other positive effects. among these an important role comes from the possibility of preventing as well as \u201ccontrasting<\/strong>\u201d the growth of some tumors, including colon, prostate, ovaries, kidneys.<\/span>

In short, a real “godsend” from heaven!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

But other great applications of vitamin D3 relate to its function anti-inflammatory<\/strong>, an action that manifests itself positively in pathological situations such as rheumatoid arthritis but also in some cases of congestive heart failure where the daily intake of 2,000 ui of vitamin D3 has decreased the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines partly responsible for the disease<\/span><\/p>\n

This function could prove useful in the post workout as an attenuator<\/strong> of post workout fibrillar damage favoring recoveries.<\/span>
\nBut another field that has always been known for the use of vitamin D and its action in favor of the muscles<\/strong> (for example, muscle fatigue); it is in fact traditionally used to combat rickets with an action carried out not only on bone growth, but also a recognized efficacy on the muscle fiber.<\/span>
\nThis efficacy seems to take place, as previously mentioned, on the ability to recover,<\/strong> but also on hormonal optimization<\/strong> (therefore on growth) which could take place both in favor of igf1 and directly on the levels of androgens.<\/span>
\nD3 levels have indeed been stably correlated with androgen levels in men. in fact from the bibliography it is inferred that men with higher levels of vitamin D3 also have higher levels of testosterone<\/strong> and lower levels of shbg (sex hormone binding globuline) a glycoprotein that binds to estradiol, testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, favoring their aromatization ( transformation of androgens into estrogens).<\/span>
\nIn this context, in fact, vitamin D3 seems to act to inhibit the aromatase enzyme, this could happen both by favoring the direct elimination of the enzyme itself and on the other hand by inhibiting the pge2 (prostaglandins and type 2) which would instead stimulate the aromatase.<\/span>
\nCome to think of it, a real “boon”, therefore an optimal supplement both for the morning and for the post workout and for pre-sleep (since it improves insulin sensitivity) and which promotes hormone production by also acting as an anti-inflammatory factor.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the action of vitamin D3 on the muscle is not only hormone-mediated, in fact it seems that the action takes place in a direct way, a way in which this vitamin has effects on muscle cells<\/strong>, through the vitamin d receptors, these receptors are called (vdr) and are transcription factors that are found in the nucleus of our cells and that, once activated, have the ability, once activated, to bind to the DNA and to turn on (or turn off) also the neighboring genes (for this reason we speak of the nutrigenomic power of this vitamin).<\/span>
\nCalcitriol (which is the active form of Vit D3) binds to VDR, activating the systems of the second messengers, these are essential for muscle repair after intense workouts. This mechanism would justify the function of vitamin D3 on muscle recovery.<\/span>
\nOn guinea pigs it was shown that mice manipulated in the functionality of the vdr had decreased structural growth, less strength, endurance and energy and less volume and muscle tone.<\/span>
\nFrom the immune system to insulin control, from hormone control to muscle recovery; I would say that vitamin D3 is increasingly proving to be a multi-faceted supplement with great flexibility of use, in fact its dosage is large and in the bibliography there are studies carried out with from 1000 to 3000<\/strong>IU per day, even if the dose is to be calibrated according to age, lifestyle, state of nutrition and intensity of physical activity.<\/span>
\nIn the near future, however, there will be more and more uses of this vitamin also in the field of fitness linked to the multiple applications it can have and to the various synergies that can be triggered with this molecule, perhaps too neglected up to now.<\/span><\/p>\n
