Description
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a perennial tuberous plant native to the Andes Mountains of Peru and Bolivia. It belongs to the Brassicaceae family, which also includes cabbage, broccoli and turnips. The part of the plant used is the root, which, due to its high nutritional value, has always played a fundamental role in nutrition, still constituting a fundamental component of the diet of the populations of those areas. Maca is also known as “Peruvian ginseng” due to its tonic-adaptogen function.
