What it is useful for and how it works

Dioscorrea Villosa is a spontaneous plant, native to North and Central America, traditionally used by the Aztecs in Mexico as a soothing agent in menstrual and childbirth pains. Modern phytotherapy uses it as a phytohormone, considering it a valid remedy to relieve the characteristic female symptoms related to premenstrual syndrome and menopause, by virtue of the presence in its roots of substances such as diosgenin and phytosterols. In the 1940s, diosgenin assumed an important role due to its structural similarity to progesterone, the best known female hormone, produced in the ovaries and by the adrenal gland. Diosgenin is still the subject of controversial studies. Some claim that our body is unable to use it and therefore deny the effectiveness of this remedy; others argue that our body is able to use it in some way as a phyto-progestin, mimicking the action of progesterone. Then there are those who believe that our body can use diosgenin to manufacture other hormones, from progesterone to DHEA. Therefore, new in-depth studies would be needed to understand exactly the mechanism that explains the use of diosgenin in our body. The truth we have before our eyes is that those who take Dioscorea Villosa feel its beneficial effects. How can we ignore this evidence? How can we not value the improvement of the well-being of many women? Hence our desire to continue to support the use of this plant extract. Furthermore, various researches validate the assertion that estrogen hormones are important in women, not only for reproductive functions, but also for a series of processes that involve the centers responsible for regulating body temperature, satiety, blood pressure, mood and psycho-physical well-being.

Our advice for use: 1-3 capsules a day, accompanied by a generous sip of water, preferably in the evening.
